• Tips on Losing Baby Weight

Weight gain is an inevitable side effect of pregnancy. It's healthy and necessary to add some weight while pregnant to properly nourish the baby. Some women gain the appropriate amount of weight while pregnant, while others tend to gain a bit too much. Regardless, there are ways to successfully get rid of the baby weight.

Try to Prevent Gaining Too Much Weight in the First Place

Pregnancy can bring about a string of crazy emotions and physical symptoms. You will most likely become quite hungry at some point during your pregnancy. Although it's OK to indulge a little during this time, try not to fall for the "eating for two" myth. In reality, your baby only requires a fraction of the amount of calories that you require.

A good rule of thumb is to consume an extra 300 calories per day than you would eat if you weren't pregnant. This will provide both you and your baby with enough nutrition without packing on the pounds that can be difficult to shed later on.

Make an Effort to Exercise During Pregnancy

Exercising is another great way to minimize the amount of weight that can be gained throughout a pregnancy. Not only that, but it can also decrease the chances of developing gestational diabetes, and can give you the strength and stamina required for pregnancy and childbirth. If you stay in shape while pregnant, it will be much easier to get back into shape faster post-partum.

The Only Way to Lose the Baby Weight

In reality, the only way to lose the baby weight is to cut calories and exercise more. There is no secret or magic pill that will make this happen - just hard work.

Start by shaving about 500 calories off your regular daily caloric intake. This alone should help you lose about one pound per week. You need to put your body in a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. Don't cut any more than 500 calories, or you may find yourself lethargic, and may find that you don't have enough energy to care for your little one.

The next thing you should do is start weight training for about 30 minutes, three times per week. This will keep up your lean muscle tissue, which in turn will burn calories long after you stopped exercising. Cardio or aerobics can help too, but weight training is probably the best way to go, since it develops those calorie-burning muscles.

Losing the baby weight is hard, but anyone can do it. Besides, with the amount of energy you will be expelling by running after your little one in a few months, you'll be getting exercise regardless of whether or not you go to the gym!
